LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A&E says it has cast British actor Freddie Highmore as young Norman Bates in "Bates Motel," a drama series set before the events of the film thriller "Psycho."
TVGuide.com confirmed the casting Friday.
Highmore, 20, is best known for his work in the films "The Spiderwick Chronicles," "August Rush," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Finding Neverland."
"The Departed" actress Vera Farmiga will play future serial killer Norman's mother, Norma, in "Bates Motel," which is to debut next year, The Hollywood Reporter said.
