LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert, during the weekend, People.com said.

No other details regarding the proposal or whether the pair have set a wedding date were immediately reported.

The couple have been dating since 2008.

Cuthbert is best known for her work on TV's "Happy Endings" and "24."
