NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Singer-actress Kristin Chenoweth says an on-set head injury has forced her to drop out of her recurring role on the New York-shot drama "The Good Wife."

Chenoweth, 44, was hospitalized after a piece of lighting equipment fell on her while she was working on the Brooklyn set of the show July 11.

"It is with deep regret to inform everyone that due to my injuries, I am unable to return to 'The Good Wife' at this time," Chenoweth told People.com in a statement Monday. "[I'm] getting better slowly, and thank you everyone for your concern."

People.com said CBS declined to comment on her decision to leave the show, which is to kick off its fourth season Sept. 30.
