EL PASO, Texas, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Television star Sherman Hemsley died from a cancerous mass on his lung, an autopsy conducted by the El Paso County Texas Medical Examiner revealed Tuesday.

The star of "The Jeffersons," "All in the Family," "Amen" and "Dinosaurs" was found dead in his home last month. He was 74. Officials had said at the time it was a natural death with no foul play suspected, but they didn't disclose the cause.

TMZ reported Tuesday the primary cause of his death was determined to be superior vena cava syndrome and is listed as such on the autopsy report.

The document noted Sherman previously had been advised to get chemo- and radiation therapy to treat his illness.

The celebrity news Web site did not say when he was diagnosed with cancer or whether he had listened to his doctors and undergone treatment for the disease.
