LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Pop singer Nick Jonas has confirmed via Twitter he is in the running to be a judge on "American Idol."

Recording stars Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez recently announced they wouldn't be returning to the singing competition series next season.

Music icon Mariah Carey and "Idol" veteran Randy Jackson have been confirmed to appear in the new edition of the series and Jonas said Saturday he is in talks to join them.

"The rumors are true... I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol," Jonas tweeted. "And it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol."

A show source told UsMagazine.com "American Idol" producers hope Jonas, 19, can help bring a "younger demo" to the show.
