LOS ANGELES, July 25 (UPI) -- Television star Chad Everett has died at his home in Los Angeles after an 18-month-long battle with lung cancer, E! News reported. He was 76.

Best known for playing Dr. Joe Gannon on TV's "Medical Center" from 1969 to 1976, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor also appeared in the 1978 epic miniseries "Centennial" and was a popular guest star on shows such as "Murder, She Wrote," "The Love Boat," "Cybill," "Caroline in the City," "Melrose Place," "The Nanny," "Jack & Bobby," "Supernatural" and "Castle."

Born in Indiana and raised in Michigan, Everett also acted in the movies "Claudelle Inglish," "Johnny Tiger," "Airplane II: The Sequel," the 1998 remake of "Psycho" and "Mulholland Drive."

The actor was predeceased last year by actress Shelby Grant, his wife of 45 years, E! said. He is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren.
