PALM DESERT, Calif., July 17 (UPI) -- Emmy-winning television producer and director William Asher has died at a board and care facility in Palm Desert, Calif., his representatives said. He was 90.
Best known for producing the sitcom "Bewitched," which starred his then-wife Elizabeth Montgomery, he also co-created "The Patty Duke Show" and directed more than 100 episodes of "I Love Lucy." Among the films he helmed are "Beach Party," "Beach Blanket Bingo" and "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini."
Asher was nominated four times for the Emmy in comedy directing -- in 1966-69 -- for "Bewitched." He won the Emmy in 1966.
The Hollywood Reporter said Asher retired from show business in 1991 and went to live in La Quinta and Indian Wells with his wife, Meredith. She was by his side when he died Monday.
The cause of his death was not disclosed.
The entertainment industry trade newspaper said a memorial service is set for Sept. 29 at Desert Springs Church in Palm Desert, Calif.
