LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- Comedy Central U.K. says it has acquired the exclusive British broadcast rights to Charlie Sheen's new sitcom "Anger Management."

The deal was made with Lionsgate's international television division, which has already sold the show in Canada, Latin America, Germany, Scandinavia, Benelux, Australia, New Zealand and Poland.

"Anger Management" debuted June 28 in the United States on FX.

"Charlie is back and on incredible form," Chris Collie, director of programming for Comedy Central, said in a statement Thursday. "'Anger Management' sits perfectly alongside our line-up of the biggest and most talked about U.S. shows -- '30 Rock,' 'South Park,' 'The Office,' 'Two and a Half Men,' 'Friends' and 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.'"

"We believe that Comedy Central is the perfect home for 'Anger Management' in the U.K., and we're delighted to continue building the show's momentum through ground-breaking sales in territories around the world," said Lionsgate International television executive Peter Iacono. "The show is off to a record-breaking start in the U.S., and we expect it to have similar resonance with audiences around the world."

The series marks Sheen's return to serialized television since he was fired from "Two and a Half Men" a little more than a year ago because of his addiction to drugs and his related erratic behavior. His new sitcom is loosely based on the 2003 feature film "Anger Management."
