NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- Television icon Regis Philbin is to serve as host of this year's "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" special in New York, NBC announced Monday.

"Regis Philbin has been an integral part of every American's life for a generation, which makes him the perfect host for our nation's birthday celebration," Doug Vaughan, the network's senior vice president of special programs and late night. "We're thrilled to have his unique and legendary talents involved in this very special day."
