LOS ANGELES, June 14 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Jeanne Tripplehorn will join the cast of "Criminal Minds" this fall, CBS announced Thursday.

"We're thrilled to have Jeanne Tripplehorn join our team as a profiler," Executive Producer Erica Messer said in a statement. "Her character will be introduced in the premiere. It's an exciting way to start Season 8."

Tripplehorn co-starred with Bill Paxton in the cable series "Big Love" for five seasons. She also starred in the TV movie "Grey Gardens," as well as the films "Sliding Doors," "Mickey Blue Eyes," "Basic Instinct" and "The Firm."
