LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- An abandoned mill town in North Carolina where "The Hunger Games" was filmed is up for sale, auction house Profiles in History announced.

The company run by Joe Maddalena said Monday it has acquired the Henry River Mill Village property, known as District 12 in the blockbuster film.

The lot is to be auctioned off via sealed bid through Profiles in History with a bidding deadline of July 31. The 72-acre abandoned mill town is valued in excess of $1.2 million, the auction house said.

Maddalena described the chance to buy a piece of property with such a cinematic legacy as "a once in a lifetime opportunity."

The town and Maddalena's acquisition of it will be featured on Syfy's "Hollywood Treasure" program June 5.

"The property exists exactly as it is seen in the film, from the bakery owned by Peeta Mellark's family to the house where Katniss Everdeen and her sister Prim lived. It is all there. Production came into the town and shot directly on site and didn't need to change a thing," said a release from Profiles in History.

Based on the best-selling survival adventure novel by Suzanne Collins, the movie stars Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and Willow Shields as Prim.
