LOS ANGELES, April 22 (UPI) -- "Hunger Games" star James Hutcherson and gay-rights advocate and film and television star Chaz Bono were honored at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation held its 23rd annual Media Awards ceremony Saturday, recognizing and honoring "media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives," the organizations said in a news release.

Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Calif., presented stepson Chaz Bono with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award for an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality, GLAAD said.

Academy-award winning actor Benicio del Toro gave Hutcherson the Vanguard Award, which is given to media professionals who increase the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community. Hutcherson, 19, the youngest recipient of the award, co-founded the LGBT ally organization, Straight But Not Narrow, the statement said.

Other award-winners include the Christopher Plummer movie, "Beginners" for outstanding film, television sit-com "Modern Family," for outstanding comedy series and outstanding documentary, "Becoming Chaz."
