LOS ANGELES, March 29 (UPI) -- Will Ferrell announced on "Conan" in Los Angeles he will star in a sequel to his 2004 comedy, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."

Ferrell appeared in character Wednesday night as the pompous San Diego broadcast journalist, but offered few details about the project.

"As of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman," he said. "It is official! There will be a sequel to 'Anchorman.' There will be a sequel."

Paramount told EW.com original "Anchorman" cast members Steve Carell and Paul Rudd will return along with Ferrell for the second film, which is due in theaters next year.

Ferrell and Adam McKay are co-writing the script, with McKay, who helmed the original, set to direct the sequel, EW.com said.
