Stuntman burned in Mountain Dew commercial

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A stuntman is in critical condition at a California hospital after sustaining burns to his face while filming a commercial in Los Angeles, police said.

The 28-year-old stuntman, whose name was not released, was swinging from a crane while filming a Mountain Dew commercial Friday when explosive powder misfired, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Another stuntman said the victim was suspended about 60 feet in the air when the blast occurred at Elysian Park near Dodger Stadium, KCBS-TV, San Francisco, reported.

A device the man was wearing for protection malfunctioned, leading to the severe burns, the Times said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and California Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
