TAIPEI, Taiwan, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Newly surfaced video footage shows a Taiwanese television star and a friend attacking a cab driver in Taipei.
The video shows Makiyo Kawajima and her friend, Takateru Tomoyori, attacked the driver as two acquaintances stood by, the China Post reported Sunday.
Makiyo initially told police she only kicked the man's taxi, but didn't take part in the Feb. 2 assault, which left the driver seriously injured, CNA reported.
The incident occurred after the four hailed a cab following dinner at a Taipei restaurant. The driver asked the riders to wear seat belts, but Makiyo allegedly refused and ordered the cab to stop, the Post said. Makiyo refused to pay the cab driver the $3 fare and as the driver called for help, Tomoyori allegedly attacked him.
Makiyo and Tomoyori have been ordered not to leave the country while police investigate.
