'Seinfeld' actor Ian Abercrombie dead at 77

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- British actor Ian Abercrombie has died of a heart attack in Los Angeles, his family said. He was 77.

Abercrombie was best known to U.S. television audiences for his portrayals of Mr. Pitt on "Seinfeld" and Professor Crumbs on "Wizards of Waverly Place."

His other small-screen credits include "Desperate Housewives," "Twin Peaks," "Dynasty," "Days of Our Lives" and "Birds of Prey." He appeared in the movies "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" and "Sweet Prince," and lent his voice to characters in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties" and "Rango."

The New York Daily News said he had completed work on an animated "Green Lantern" series for the Cartoon Network shortly before he died last Thursday.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys, the newspaper said.
