NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Star Jones, one of the original co-hosts of "The View," is to return to the talk show in New York as a guest next month, ABC announced Wednesday.

Jones quit the show on air in 2006 after learning her contract had not been renewed for the following season.

ABC said she is to make her first guest appearance on the daytime chat show Feb. 22.

"Jones joins the hosts in a joint effort to raise awareness of heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women, and to discuss her involvement with the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement," ABC said in a news release.

Jones underwent successful open-heart surgery in March 2010 to repair a malfunctioning heart valve related to a rarely performed surgery she'd had after developing a thoracic tumor three decades earlier, ABC said. Two months later, Walters announced on "The View" that she would undergo open-heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve. Walters returned full time to "The View" Sept. 7.
