LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. television network CW has ordered a pilot based on the "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries," TVGuide.com reported.

The pilot is based on author Candace Bushnell's young-adult novel set in the 1980s, an origin story for her "Sex and the City" protagonist Carrie Bradshaw.

Bushnell's "Sex and the City" was turned into a hit TV series and two feature films.

She is attached to executive produce the pilot for "The Carrie Diaries," TVGuide.com said.
