NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- TV Land said Cedric the Entertainer will star in his own sitcom when the U.S. network spins off his "Hot in Cleveland" character, Boyce "The Voice" Ballentine.
The network's June launch of the black family comedy "Have Faith" will highlight Cedric as an R&B star who, like Little Richard, Al Green and Joe Tex, becomes a preacher, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.
Cedric will do his own vocals in the show which co-stars Niecy Nash as his wife Lolli.
The comedian said performing his part seems natural to him because a preacher's skills "are very similar" to a lot of the skills needed to do stand-up comedy, the News said.
The character of Boyce Ballentine was introduced in "Hot in Cleveland" whose co-star, Betty White, will make an early crossover appearance.
