Deschanel files for divorce from Gibbard

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Actress and singer Zooey Deschanel has filed for divorce from her rocker husband Ben Gibbard in Los Angeles Superior Court, records show.

Deschanel is the star of TV's "New Girl" and half of the music act She and Him, with M. Ward. Gibbard is the lead singer for Death Cab for Cutie.

They were married is September 2009 and separated about two months ago.

The actress filed for divorce Dec. 27, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause for the split, E! News reported.
