NEW YORK, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. cable network FX announced it would air a six-episode series starring British comic Russell Brand.

The star of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the remake of "Arthur" will take what FX said in a written statement would be an "unvarnished, unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture."

The BBC said the statement implied Brand's show, which will air late at night, will be similar in content to "Ponderland," a British series that aired 2007-2008.

Brand, the husband of pop star Katy Perry, made a name for himself in the Colonies with his snarky performance as host of the MTV Awards in 2008.

MTV noted Brand's vitriol toward President George W. Bush over the years was a little ironic since FX is a sister network to the conservative Fox.

Brand made note of it as well, saying in a written statement he would be able "have a Christmas drink" with right-wing Fox host Bill O'Reilly.
