LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Bryan Fuller is writing and will executive produce a U.S. television drama based on Thomas Harris' iconic serial killer Hannibal Lecter, Deadline.com said.

Gaumont International Television is developing the hourlong drama "Hannibal" at NBC and the network is expected to order a 13-episode season if it likes Fuller's first script, the report said.

The brilliant, charming murderer Hannibal Lecter is at the center of Harris' novels "The Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal," "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal Rising," as well as the movies they inspired.

The character was most memorably played by Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins, who won an Oscar for his performance in 1991's "The Silence of the Lambs."

Fuller was a producer and writer on "Pushing Daisies" and "Heroes."
