Hollywood gala honors next-gen stars

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Hollywood saluted its up-and-comers Saturday at a Los Angeles gala featuring readings and musical performances by promising actors and directors.

The "Reel Stories, Reel Lives" event at Milk Studios was hosted by Robert Downey Jr., and benefited the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

The event officially saluted the members of The Hollywood Reporter's Next Generation Class of 2011: Top 35 Under 35.

"'Reel Stories, Real Lives' was truly a special evening that captured the spirit of the entertainment industry, an extended family of professionals who make all the magic of Hollywood possible," Ken Scherer, chief executive officer of the MPTF Foundation, said in a written statement.

The event featured readings of stories from industry members who have benefited from MPTF programs. Performers included Jodi Foster, Chris Pine, Josh Brolin and Jennifer Garner. Megan Mullally was among the musical guests.
