LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Actor Eriq La Salle has signed up for a recurring role on the new U.S. drama series "A Gifted Man," CBS announced.

The former "ER" cast member will play Dr. Evan Morrison, a neuropsychiatrist and medical sleuth who focuses on the nuances of human behavior.

"I'm thrilled to be working again with Eriq La Salle," "A Gifted Man" Executive Producer Neal Baer said in a statement Wednesday. "I have very fond memories of our time together on 'ER' and look forward to having Eriq portray another unforgettable character on 'A Gifted Man.'"

Starring Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Ehle and Margo Martindale, the new show is to premiere Sept. 23.

"After the ghost of Michael's ex-wife visits him from the afterlife and asks him to help continue running her low income clinic, he finds himself rushing back and forth between taking care of his own patients at Holt Neuro and her less fortunate patients at the clinic," CBS said in a synopsis.
