LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Agnes Nixon, creator of "All My Children," is to return as a guest star on the soon-to-end U.S. daytime drama, ABC announced Monday.

Nixon is to reprise her role of Agnes Eckhart, a long-standing board member of the soap opera's fictional Pine Valley Hospital. She created the role in 2005 to celebrate the show's 35th anniversary.

Nixon wrote for "Another World," "Guiding Light," "As the World Turns" and "Search for Tomorrow" before going on to create "One Life to Live," "All My Children," "The City" and "Loving."

"It was on these shows where Nixon brought many current and important social issues to the small screen. She was honored in 2010 with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th annual Daytime Emmys," ABC noted in a news release.

Nixon's first episode airs Aug. 31.

ABC recently announced the long-running soap opera will continue airing on the Internet after it wraps up its broadcast run this fall.
