NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Actress Nicollette Sheridan says she has no plans to return for the final season of "Desperate Housewives," the U.S. series on which she worked for five years.

Sheridan's character Edie Britt was killed off in Season 5. The actress, who allegedly didn't get along with "Housewives" creator Marc Cherry, subsequently sued the show's producers for wrongful dismissal. A trial to settle the matter has been scheduled to begin in October.

Sheridan has not worked steadily on television or in film since leaving "Housewives."

The Hollywood Reporter quoted Cherry as saying Sheridan would return for the award-winning comedy's upcoming eighth and final season.

Asked about Cherry's remarks on Monday's edition of the "Today" show, Sheridan said, "That's news to me."

Guest co-host Billy Bush then inquired, "If asked, would you come back?"

"I had an amazing time playing that character. I loved her dearly, but they killed her! She's dead," Sheridan replied, to which Bush pointed out Edie could appear in a flashback or her death could turn out to be a dream.

"Is this turning into a daytime soap opera?" The Hollywood Reporter quoted Sheridan as saying.

"In other words, she's saying no!" "Today" co-host Kathie Lee Gifford said.
