LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The upcoming eighth season of "Desperate Housewives" will be the U.S. night-time soap's last, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Plummeting ratings and high production costs and cast salaries are being blamed for the show's demise, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

ABC is expected to discuss the show's future at Sunday's Television Critics Association press tour panel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria and Vanessa Williams, the show won Golden Globes for Best Comedy Series in 2004 and 2005.
