Dillane joins 'Game of Thrones' cast

LOS ANGELES, July 19 (UPI) -- British actor Stephen Dillane has joined the cast of "Game of Thrones" for Season 2 of the HBO series, EW.com reported Tuesday.

Dillane has had supporting roles in the films "The Hours" and "King Arthur." He also played Thomas Jefferson in HBO's miniseries "John Adams."

He will play Stannis, the no-nonsense brother of Mark Addy's party-loving character King Robert Baratheon, who was killed by a boar while hunting last season, TVGuide.com noted.

Also hired for a role in "Thrones" is Dutch actress Carice van Houten, who will play the mysterious sorceress Melisandre, TVGuide.com said. She was part of the ensemble of "Valkyrie."
