ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 13 (UPI) -- U.S. cable network Encore said the first original program it will air will be the miniseries "Moby Dick," starring Ethan Hawke and William Hurt.

The two-part small-screen adaptation of Herman Melville's classic whale tale is to run Aug. 1-2.

Another original miniseries, called "The Take" and starring Tom Hardy and Brian Cox, is scheduled to air this fall. It is based on Martina Cole's popular crime thriller.

"Encore Originals will complement the quality movie programming found on Encore, and build upon the consistently strong viewership with the introduction of quality original programming," Stephan Shelanski, executive vice president of programming for Starz Entertainment, said in a statement. "Encore is a tremendous premium television value for subscribers and our affiliates, and its unique original programming will further fortify the network. We are committed to continue Encore Originals in future years with a diverse array of programming additions that will complement the premium programming mix."
