Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- Tracy Morgan says he will make a trip back to Tennessee to apologize for an anti-gay riff during a live show in Nashville.
Morgan also met Friday with homeless gay and lesbian teenagers in New York, The Hollywood Reporter said. The meeting, organized by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, also included people who have lost loved ones to hate crimes.
In his June 3 standup show, Morgan suggested he would kill his son if he was gay.
"Returning to Tennessee and apologizing to those he offended is an important step in showing that Tracy truly understands the weight of his words," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. "In a state that continues to put anti-gay laws on the books, it's now more important than ever that we let Tennesseans know that homophobia has no place on or off the stage."
The uproar over Morgan's remarks has drawn a mixed response from his colleagues on the NBC sitcom "30 Rock" and in the entertainment business. Tina Fey, the show's star, said she found is remarks "disturbing" at a time when gays and lesbians are often victims of violence but described Morgan as "not a hateful man" and "generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person."
