'Family' up for 6 Critics' Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. sitcom "Modern Family" led with six nominations when nods for the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards were announced Monday.

ABC was the most nominated broadcast network with 16 nominations, followed by NBC with 12.

AMC and FX led nominations for cable networks, with nine each.

"Modern Family" will compete for the Best Comedy Series title with FX's "Archer," CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," NBC's "Community," Fox's "Glee," FX's "Louie," ABC's "The Middle," and NBC's "The Office," "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock."

Shortlisted for Best Actor in a Comedy Series are Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock," Steve Carell of "The Office," Louis C.K. of "Louie," Charlie Day of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," Joel McHale of "Community" and Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory."

The nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy Series are Courteney Cox for "Cougar Town," Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie," Tina Fey for "30 Rock," Patricia Heaton for "The Middle," Martha Plimpton for "Raising Hope" and Amy Poehler for "Parks and Recreation."

In the running for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series are Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill and Eric Stonestreet of "Modern Family," Neil Patrick Harris of "How I Met Your Mother," Nick Offerman of "Parks and Recreation" and Danny Pudi of "Community."

Up for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series are "Modern Family" co-stars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, Jane Krakowski of "30 Rock," Jane Lynch of "Glee," Busy Philipps of "Cougar Town" and Eden Sher of "The Middle."

Nominated for Best Drama Series are HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," Showtime's "Dexter," DirecTV's "Friday Night Lights," Fox's "Fringe," HBO's "Game of Thrones," CBS' "The Good Wife," FX's "Justified," and AMC's "The Killing," "Mad Men" and "The Walking Dead."

Up for Best Actor in a Drama Series are Steve Buscemi for "Boardwalk Empire," Kyle Chandler for "Friday Night Lights," Michael C. Hall for "Dexter," Jon Hamm for "Mad Men," William H. Macy for "Shameless" and Timothy Olyphant for "Justified."

In the running for Best Actress in a Drama Series are Connie Britton for "Friday Night Lights," Mireille Enos for "The Killing," Julianna Margulies for "The Good Wife," Elisabeth Moss for "Mad Men," Katey Sagal for "Sons of Anarchy" and Anna Torv for "Fringe."

Vying for the Best Reality Series prize are ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," A&E's "Hoarders," Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," TLC's "Sister Wives" and CBS' "Undercover Boss."

The contenders in the Best Reality Series -- Competition category are CBS' "The Amazing Race," Fox's "American Idol," ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," Lifetime's "Project Runway," Logo's "RuPaul's Drag Race" and Bravo's "Top Chef."

The nominees for Best Reality Show Host are Tom Bergeron for "Dancing with the Stars," Cat Deeley for "So You Think You Can Dance," Ty Pennington for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Mike Rowe for "Dirty Jobs" and Ryan Seacrest for "American Idol."

Shortlisted for Best Talk Show are "Chelsea Lately" on E!, "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on ABC and the syndicated series "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

The prizes are to be presented by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, a new offshoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, at a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel June 20. The ceremony is to be broadcast on REELZCHANNEL June 22.
