NEW YORK, May 23 (UPI) -- The 36th season finale of "Saturday Night Live" scored the U.S. sketch show's highest ratings for a season-closer in seven years, NBC said.

Singer-actor Justin Timberlake served as host of the May 21 edition of "SNL," for which pop star Lady Gaga was the musical guest.

The episode averaged a 7 rating, 17 share in metered-market household averages, highest for an "SNL" season finale since May 15, 2004, when a telecast starring the Olsen twins and featuring musical guest J-Kwon also averaged a 7.

The last time an "SNL" season-ender scored higher than a 7 was May 20, 2000, when Jackie Chan served as host and Kid Rock was the musical guest. That broadcast earned a 7.3 rating in metered-market households.

National ratings, demographic results and viewer totals for last Saturday night's "Saturday Night Live" are expected to be available from Nielsen Thursday, NBC said Sunday.
