NEW YORK, May 20 (UPI) -- U.S. broadcast journalist Katie Couric is in talks to star in an afternoon talk show for ABC, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Couric wrapped up a five-year stint as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" Thursday night, but has not announced what her next career move will be.

The Times said she plans to serve as host of a new syndicated show to start in the fall of 2012.

"Speculation around Katie is exciting, but there is no new deal to announce," Couric's spokesman Matthew Hiltzik told the newspaper Thursday.
