NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- USA Network has announced it has ordered a second season of its drama series, "Fairly Legal," starring Sarah Shahi and Michael Trucco.

Production on 13 new episodes is to begin in late summer. The new season of the show about a mediator working at her late father's San Francisco law firm is to air in early 2012.

The announcement was made Thursday by Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, the cable network's co-presidents.

Shot on location in Vancouver, British Columbia, the series co-stars Virginia Williams and Baron Vaughn.

"As Sarah's character Kate Reed would say, this is a 'win-win' for USA," McCumber said in a statement. "The show offers a completely fresh twist on the genre that audiences love. There was no conflict in our decision to bring it back for a sophomore season."

"There's no question in our mind that Sarah Shahi is a breakout star," Wachtel said. "Beyond the success of its first season, 'Fairly Legal' is a show that we believe has significant creative and commercial upside."
