NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- Spanish actor Javier Bardem has been cast as Roland Deschain in the TV and film adaptations of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" books, the New York Post said.
Bardem won an Oscar for his work in the movie "No Country for Old Men." He also starred in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and "Love in the Time of Cholera."
The Post said the "Dark Tower" project from director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer will consist of three movies, each of which will be followed by a TV miniseries.
"Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the intention is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series. It's an enormous deal for any actor, but Bardem was always the first choice," a source told the newspaper.
