Report: Couric to announce departure

NEW YORK, April 25 (UPI) -- U.S. broadcast journalist Katie Couric is expected to announce this week her departure from the "CBS Evening News" after five years, sources told EW.com.

Couric's contract with the network is to expire in June.

The 54-year-old anchor is leaving the broadcast to develop a new daytime talk show that may involve Matt Lauer, her former co-anchor at NBC's "Today" show, EW.com said Monday.

NBC has denied Lauer plans to leave "Today."
