NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- Meredith Vieira is strongly considering leaving "Today" when her contract with the talk show in New York expires in September, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Vieira, 57, quit her moderator post on "The View" and signed on as co-anchor of "Today" with Matt Lauer nearly five years ago.

She replaced Katie Couric, who left "Today" after 15 years to anchor the "CBS Evening News."

The entertainment industry trade newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying Vieira wants to leave her current position to spend more time with her husband, Richard Cohen, who has long been afflicted with multiple sclerosis.

"There is going to be an opening; she's done," one insider told The Hollywood Reporter about Vieira's course for the future.
