LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Actor Jesse L. Martin has signed on to star in a musical drama pilot called "Hallelujah," The Hollywood Reporter said.

The project is headed up by "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry for ABC. It is about a Tennessee town where the forces of good and evil are at war, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Martin is best known for his work on TV's "Law & Order," as well as in the movie musical "Rent."
