PHOENIX, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Frankie Muniz's publicist is denying an online report claiming the actor assaulted his girlfriend and held a gun to his own head at their home in Phoenix.

Entertainment news Web site TMZ cited a police report filed last Friday as the source for its story about the 25-year-old former "Malcolm in the Middle" star, who is also a race-car driver and musician.

TMZ said it was alleged in the police report that Muniz "grabbed a gun and held it to his head, possibly with the intent of committing suicide," as well as punched girlfriend Elycia Turnbow and "threw her into a wall."

Both Muniz and Turnbow were charged with disorderly conduct, TMZ said.

But the couple's representative downplayed the alleged incident in a statement issued Tuesday to UsMagazine.com.

"Frankie and Elycia had an argument a few days ago. The police were called to the residence," the statement said. "A gun played no part in the argument and was voluntarily given to the police for safekeeping. There were no bruises and neither left the residence. He was not suicidal. She was not assaulted. They have been together since the incident; are still together and are moving forward with their lives and with their relationship."
