CHICAGO, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Award-winning U.S. actress-singer Jennifer Hudson says her recent diet trimmed her down from a size 16 to a 6.

The 29-year-old Oscar and Grammy winner appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" this week in the run-up to the release of her new album and revealed she had dropped 80 pounds,

"Most of all I wanted my body back, so I made up my mind while I was pregnant," said Hudson, who gave birth to her first child, David, in August 2009, less than a year after her mother, brother and nephew were killed in a shooting.

Hudson said she realized while she was expecting that she needed to get into shape because she was still wearing the same clothes she had before she got pregnant. "So what does that say? I don't really like this."

The Los Angeles Times said Saturday fashion guru Tim Gunn, who was also a guest on the TV talk show, called Hudson "stunning" while Oprah herself gave everyone in the audience a Weight Watchers program of their own.
