Slain student's father opposes TV film

LONDON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The father of a British student murdered in Italy is denouncing a TV movie soon to come out that depicts the brutal crime.

John Kercher, whose daughter Meredith was killed in 2007, told the BBC he found the scenes "graphic," "horrific" and "distressing."

The Lifetime channel's "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy" is scheduled to premiere this month. It stars Hayden Panettiere as Knox, Kercher's American roommate who was convicted of the murder along with her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede.

The producers are reported to have worked from media and legal reports and not consulted the families.

Amanda Knox is appealing her conviction, and her family has spoken out against the movie as well.
