NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Eddie Izzard, Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland are leading the cast of a TV adaptation of "Treasure Island," now filming in Ireland and Puerto Rico.

The two-part movie event from RHI Entertainment is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate adventure. It is set to premiere on Syfy in early 2012.

Izzard is playing Long John Silver, Wood is playing Ben Gunn and Sutherland is playing Flint. Toby Regbo, who will be seen in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II" as Young Dumbledore, is playing young Jim Hawkins in "Treasure Island," while Shirley Henderson is playing his mother and Nina Sosanya is playing Silver's wife.

"'Treasure Island' is one of the greatest tales in all of literature," RHI Entertainment's Robert Halmi Sr. said in a statement Wednesday. "We have retained the adrenaline-charged atmosphere and action from the original work, while adding an edgier, darker tone that will resonate with contemporary audiences. It is a thrilling experience to be able to take this story and re-interpret it for today's viewers."
