BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The high school-set "Glee" was named Best Comedy Series at the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., Sunday night.

Cast members Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch were also individually recognized with the prizes for Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a TV series, miniseries or movie.

Colfer won his trophy early in the evening for his portrayal of openly gay Kurt on the music-themed show.

"I think I just dropped my heart somewhere between Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, so if anyone sees that, could they please give it back to me!" Colfer said, referring to the actresses he passed on the way to the stage to collect his prize.

Colfer thanked his co-stars and "all the amazing kids who watch our show and the kids who our show celebrates, who are constantly told 'no' by the people in their environments, by bullies at school, that they can't be who they are or have what they want because of who they are. Well, screw that, kids!"

Lynch won her statuette for playing "Glee" villain Sue Sylvester.

"The great thing about 'Glee,' for me anyway -- the greatest thrill is I get these 14-year-old kids coming up to me, vibrating out of their bodies, saying to me how happy 'Glee' makes them and when I have the time and am not eating and can be bothered, I'll give them a moment of my time," Lynch quipped. "Thank you so much."

Jim Parsons earned the Best Actor in a Comedy Series honor for his work in "The Big Bang Theory."

"It's so weird -- one day you're wondering: 'Is CBS going to put the show on the air?' And then, 'Is anyone going to come back after the prolonged writers' strike?' Then you're waiting and days go by and suddenly you're at the Golden Globes with your whole cast and crew," Parsons said.

Laura Linney won the Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in "The Big C." She was unable to attend, however, because she is performing on Broadway in "Time Stands Still."
