LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. rocker and reality television personality Bret Michaels has proposed to Kristi Gibson, his on-off girlfriend of 16 years.

The couple have two children together.

"I want you to know that I love you, and you've been unbelievably a big part of my life. I want you to be my wife," "Entertainment Tonight" said Michaels told Gibson Monday night on the season finale of VH1's "Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It."

"I'm speechless," Gibson replied as she accepted his proposal. "I thought this day would never come and he doesn't realize how happy he's just made me."

This year has been eventful for the former Poison front man. Beginning in April he was treated for a brain hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack, a hole in his heart and an emergency appendectomy -- and then went on to win TV's "The Celebrity Apprentice."
