OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Country music superstar Garth Brooks says a movie to debut on Lifetime Television is based on his hit song "Unanswered Prayers."
The movie, with the same name as the song, will air for the first time Monday. Brooks said his ballad is based on a real encounter he and his first wife Sandy Mahl had with his high school girlfriend in 1989, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman reported.
"I think it's about the choices that we make in our life and looking back on those choices," Brooks said. "You know, that hindsight's a 20/20 thing. I think it's just kind of (about) how we sit with our own choices."
Brooks divorced Mahl in 2001 and married fellow country star Trisha Yearwood in 2005.
Actress Patty Duke plays a supporting part in the film and said she enjoyed working with Brooks, who was the executive producer for the movie.
"Though we had never met, he has been a real hero in our family," Duke said. "And his song 'Unanswered Prayers' says a lot to all of us who wish for things that maybe it's better that we didn't have."
Brooks also expressed his love for Oklahoma.
"One of the greatest gifts is being raised there, living there," Brooks said. "It's real life, and it reflects in everything you do."
