LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Charlie O'Donnell, longtime announcer for the U.S. game show "Wheel of Fortune," has died at the age of 78, his agent said.

NBC San Diego said the cause of his death Sunday night has not been disclosed.

O'Donnell was the voice of the popular game show from 1975 to 1980 and again from 1988 until he died.

The former New York disc jockey also worked on "American Bandstand" and "The Newlywed Game," and served as announcer for Oscar and Emmy telecasts.
