Carey to star in Christmas TV special

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- ABC says it plans to air a U.S. television special called "Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You" next month.

The program is to be taped at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast Dec. 13.

The special will feature Carey performing songs from her new holiday album, "Merry Christmas II You," which is to be released Tuesday by Island Def Jam Music Group.

Joel Gallen will direct the TV special and serve as executive producer alongside Carey, ABC said.
