TCM to air restored version 'Metropolis'

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. cable network TCM says it plans to air the world television premiere of the extensively restored version of Fritz Lang's 1927 film "Metropolis."

"This extraordinary new edition of the film, which had its North American theatrical premiere at the TCM Classic Festival in April, features 25 minutes of previously lost scenes, as well as the original Gottfried Huppertz score," TCM said in a news release Tuesday. "'Metropolis' is one of the most memorable films of the silent era and an iconic example of German expressionism."

It is to premiere on TCM Nov. 7, one week before the release of DVD and Blu-ray Disc editions from Kino International.

TCM's presentation will be followed by "Metropolis Refound," a 1-hour documentary about the discovery of the new footage.
