Syfy working on women's fashion line

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. company Syfy Ventures says it is working on a collection of apparel and accessories aimed at the growing female science-fiction fan base.

Items will be sold under the Syfy Gear banner.

"This deal with Her Universe is especially exciting as Syfy (network's) audience continues to expand and become more gender balanced," Alan Seiffert, senior vice president of Syfy Ventures, said in a statement Tuesday. "Her Universe has tapped into exactly what our female fans are looking for in cool genre apparel, and Syfy is uniquely positioned as a brand to partner on creating innovative collections in the space."

Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe" noted "close to half" of all sci-fi fans are women.

"I created Her Universe to produce merchandise for this growing number to of female fans," she said. "I am so excited to now expand our brand with Syfy Ventures and create a special collection that reflects the creativity and imagination of their eager female audience."

The Syfy Gear/Her Universe collection is expected to include both original designs and show-specific merchandise from hit Syfy series such as "Caprica," "Eureka," "Battlestar Galactica," "Destination Truth," "Ghost Hunters International," "Ghost Hunters Academy" and "Warehouse 13."

Items will be available at Syfy.com and Heruniverseshop.com. Throughout 2011, merchandise also will be sold at conventions across the country, including San Diego Comic Con.

Beginning in 2012, merchandise will be available through national retail partners, as well.
