NEW YORK, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Actor Peter Scolari says he was born for comedy, which will suit him just fine when he opens off Broadway next week in "It Must Be Him."

The 54-year-old New Yorker who co-starred with Tom Hanks in the 1980 television sitcom "Bosom Buddies" plays a washed-up homosexual TV writer in search of Mr. Right.

The New York Daily News said Saturday that Scolari, a divorced father of four, began finding his comedy chops back in the 1970s while training as a dramatic actor with budding stars Jeff Goldblum, Rhea Pearlman and Danny DeVito.

"People I worked with there saw a comedian in me," Scolari said. "I'm still most at home in comedy."

Scolari said "It Must Be Him" is more on the absurd side. "He's visited by his dead parents and occasionally breaks into song," Scolari said.
